What black & grey actually is
Despite the name, black and grey tattoos use only black ink. Greys are created by diluting black at varying strengths during application. This is a technically demanding style — the artist must read shading values in real time, working with translucent washes that behave very differently from solid color.
Why Delaware collectors choose it
Black and grey ages exceptionally well. Without color pigments to fade, the work retains its contrast and detail for decades. For collectors in Sussex County who want serious, lasting work, it's almost always our first recommendation.
Realism, illustrative, and chicano styles
Black and grey covers a wide spectrum: photorealistic portraits, illustrative botanical work, chicano-influenced lettering and figures, religious iconography, and abstract shading studies. John has worked across all of these and will help you find the right approach for your concept.
Session length and structure
Single forearm pieces run 3–5 hours. Half sleeves typically 2–3 sessions; full sleeves 5–8. Backs and full body suits are quoted as long-form projects.
Healing black & grey work
Black and grey work heals consistently and predictably with our standard aftercare protocol. Avoid sun exposure for the first month and you'll preserve the contrast we worked hard to build.
